With the popularity of online shopping taking over it is a shame to see so many shops mainly small businesses everywhere closing down. With the high rents it's no wonder so many close doors. Yes you say... why not go and do what everyone else is doing and go online? I guess for whatever reasons some do but most don't.
Then you have the other side of it, if your online shopping goes viral so then do you need a brick and mortar shop as well?
There is no greater feeling to a handmaiden who sews or crafts etc than to walk into a brick & mortar shop whether it is a huge retail outlet like Spotlight or Lincraft or a small business like a quality quilting fabric shop, and see everything imaginable you need right in front of you, more that you dont need, but will get it anyway just in case!
To walk among the aisles and to smell that fabric!
To walk amongst all that eye candy!
To walk past and to touch and feel all the diff types and textures of fabrics notions etc between your fingers!
To feast your eyes upon rows and rows of lace, buttons, cottons interfacing etc and to be able to pick up and see exactly what you are getting in size, width & actual colour etc!
Now,I don't know about most ladies but we have to drive a significant distance to our nearest fabric shops. It is a day out for me which is highly anticipated but also very hard to drag myself away from my sewing and computer habits ( selling online) but once out, is thoroughly enjoyed specially with Spotlight % off vouchers! Plus I get lunch out... added bonus! Always nice to not have to cook and clean up.
Now don't get me wrong I sell online, have a website and also buy online. I am waiting for that magical moment when I go viral and will be able to afford a brick & mortar shop! It is quick, easy and most times affordable online and really handy when you are time poor. There have been a handful of times I didn't get what I paid for online as colour is an issue, when it gets here it's lighter, darker or even a diff shade altogether as online colour is very difficult to maintain consistently.
Then there's added bonuses of Afterpay online, get it now pay it off!
No pushing and shoving and being hit by bags, trolley's etc.
No lining up in queues that seem to take even longer to get through than it did to do the actual shopping!
No rude sales people!
Sitting in the comfort of a favourite chair to browse....heaven!
Oh and I forgot...with a nice hot cuppa or glass of wine, a biscuit or 2 or cannot forget .... some chocolate! Sheer heaven!
Now that's how one should shop!
I think we have it good having the best of both worlds and to be able to have a choice of both still. So don't forget to go visit your local fabric retail outlet small or big to keep them in business too.
Until Next time KerryAnne
